MODELER'S TIP DOOR FRAME REINFORCEMENT
HERE'S THE PROBLEM: windshield posts are weakened when a model car's doors are cut open. Let's focus on door frames, and strengthening the framework – a logical progression, since opening doors are usually subjected to frequent handling.
Use .015" and .020" music wire from the hobby shop to reinforce those areas. Caution: Don't use spruce cutters on music wire; the hardened wire will destroy your cutters.
Open the doors with a hobby blade as you normally would, but don't remove them completely from the car body. Leave the corners to hold the doors in their original position. I find that keeping the doors attached make them less flimsy and easier to work with.
Clean up the inside edges, so you can see how much room you have on the posts. Scribe a tiny groove all the way around the door posts for the thin music wire.
Bend the wire so it fits in the groove all the way around, then go back and cut the corners to completely remove the doors from the car body.
A little sanding and putty will hide the wires.
