Tips & Tech | Newsletter Exclusive | Modeling cobwebs (just in time for Halloween!!) "How can I produce scale cobwebs in 1/25 scale?" That simple question made us realize the ubiquitous cobweb is seldom modeled in scale, although it would certainly be at home in a junkyard or old garage diorama. Walthers GOO is a model‑railroad adhesive similar to contact cement, but more sticky as it comes out of the tube. It's available in most hobby shops, or online. To make cobwebs, squeeze out a small dab of GOO onto a piece of card and dip the end of a toothpick into the GOO. Touch the toothpick onto the starting point of the cobweb, and pull the toothpick away from the area, causing a string of GOO to appear. Touch the end of the string to another point. The end result should be a thin line of GOO between the two points. You need to use a fresh dab of GOO each time, because as it sets up (even for a very short time) it dries too much to create a thin string. This will become clear as you experiment with the technique. GOO will last for years if it's undisturbed. It won't shrink or stretch, or be affected by heat or humidity. — Ken Hamilton | | | |
